Beyond Decoration

Brief: These days many people first think of wallpaper with old age pensioners. What is the future of wallpaper? Create a new set of wallpapers for a contemporary and youthful audience. Rather than just decorative, conisder shape, form, colour, texture and composition. Look at the psychological effects of colour.

Final Outcome: I decided to show two of my concepts for the final piece, using one side of the concertina book to represent one idea and the other side for the second idea.

(a) The pop-up wallpaper furniture, is wallpaper that you can fold down certain parts to create furniture, but can also easily be folded back up. The wallpaper is also a space saving concept.

(b) The Moire wallpaper is used to reduce alcohol intake and is placed where excessive drinking normally takes place. The moire effect is disturbing to the eye and causes a person to feel unbalanced as the pattern seems to jump or move. Therefore a person will feel more drunk than they actually are. The wallpaper is also slightly padded to help ease the fall of a 'drunk'.
